Natural Cures For Yeast Infection
According to estimates, three of every four women will have a yeast infection in their lifetime, which is why natural cures for yeast infection are important. A yeast infection, also called candidiasis or moniliasis, is typically attributable to overgrowth of Candida, a yeastlike fungus that is naturally occurring in small amounts within the vagina.
Some natural cures for yeast infection are widely recognized. One of these comes in the form of boric acid suppositories. Studies on patients with recurring candidiasis have shown that they can benefit from boric acid vaginal suppositories as natural cures for yeast infection, instead of oral treatment using itraconazole or fluconazole. Boric acid suppositories apparently work better on the yeast species Candida glabrata, in particular, than oral or topical antifungal medication.
Even though boric acid suppositories are not extensively available commercial products, a few such as Yeast Arrest and Gy-na-tren are sold by certain companies. Compounding pharmacies are another source of boric acid preparations.
Despite the fact that boric acid is categorized among natural cures for yeast infection, it is nevertheless a toxic substance that should be used with care. It is also inadvisable for children and pregnant women.
The plant species Melaleuca alternifolia is the source of another one of the natural cures for yeast infection, namely tea tree oil. To use this essential oil, you just water it down a bit and apply it topically.
The reason that tea tree oil works against Candida is ostensibly the terpinen-4-ol compound it contains. However, additional clinical studies need to be done to definitively establish tea tree oil’s value as a yeast infection cure.
Always remember to dilute a few drops of the tea tree oil in a small amount of water then apply it onto your body using a washcloth. Full-strength tea tree oil should never be used directly on the vaginal area.
Probiotics are natural cures for yeast infection too. They have been called friendly bacteria because they are live microbial organisms that naturally exist in the vagina and digestive tract. Probiotics can suppress Candida from overgrowth, which is why probiotic supplements are used as a yeast infection cure.
Species of probiotics that are being used against yeast infection include Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus fermentum RC-14, and Lactobacillus rhamnosus GR-1. You can avail of probiotics as dietary supplements. Probiotic vaginal suppositories can also be found, albeit with some searching. A tip about using probiotics is not to use them concurrently with antibiotics, which could kill the friendly bacteria together with the germs.
